    Question about O&C SS buckles

    Hi,

I've seen several SS buckles with O&C removed, just leaving the Ges.Gesch ..
    Why was that ?
... and does it reduce value ?

It was done by Overhoff, as per new RZM regulations. It does not effect the value at all, for most collectors. I have a full script "Overhoff & Cie Ludenscheid GES. GESCH." marked buckle and the entire "Overhoff & Cie" part of the marking was completely ground off. This is fairly common to see on nickel buckles by Overhoff. Hope this helps!

By many collectors it is considered a variant.

This was not following new RZM regulations but to prevent the company to have his stock confiscated.

Thanks for the clarification, JP. If you don't mind me asking, since it wasn't due to RZM regulations, then why were those buckles at risk of being confiscated if the names were not removed? Thank you very much!

Because in the first years makers were still selling their goods without really taking care of strict RZM regulations. There is more commercial impact from a displayed name than from an obscure number....So Himmler took a resolution to force makers to do what they had to do rather than what they wanted to do. SS buckles were indeed supplied by the RZM channel but everything from quantities ordered to their final sale was still strictly in Himmler's hands.
