1st Modern Panzer?

Taking into account all of the tanks designed and produced by Germany starting from WW1 up until the present (production and prototypes), what would be the first "modern" German tank. For example, the French tank Renault FT is considered the first modern French tank due to a single rotating turret, rear engine, separate compartments, etc. When weighing these factors in trying to figure the first modern German tank, do you also incorporate speed, armor, or type of main gun? What would you consider to be Germany's first modern tank and why?

Tough question.....I'm sure all tanks when designed/built were thought to be modern at that time....This and tank warfare evolved rather quickly during the second world war....Early tanks were lightly armoured and gunned, so when thicker armour was used, their guns would quickly became obselete....So a race between firepower and protection ensued thus changing the ideal of what would be deemed "modern"....Plus, you missed other important features....This would be ease of manufacturing and maintainability.....Unfortunately for Germany, their best tanks (Panther and Tiger) didn't meet these criteria...Bodes
