Unknown Dunkelgelb Periscope

Hello!

Awhile back, I posted about this periscope in the optics forum:

I figured it was worth posting in the Panzer forum, because it seems to be from some sort of armored Wehrmacht armored vehicle.

There are no visible manufacturer marks. I suspect if I unscrewed the bottom rubber seal it would reveal it, however I do not want to risk damaging the screws. The only marking is the painted "0,3 atü" on the reverse/viewing side of the periscope.

The switch/handle on the right side of the periscope allows the user to switch from viewing front to rear. It still functions nicely, though its a bit of a dusty view.

I contacted the Bovington Tank Museum. They stated they would research it for a £15 fee. It may be worth it, but I figured to pose it to the Panzer forum first.

Sd.Kfz.234 Puma

Hi Friends Collector.

This periscope fitted the german heavy armoured car 8x8 Sd.Kfz.234/2 Puma.

I think 'atü' refers to atmospheric pressure, so it might be the inside of the scope is under low pressure to prevent fogging up or so?

This piece is watertight and under pressure to prevent condensation and dust from getting inside.

0.3 atu is the rate of pressurization.

I imagine the atmospheric value was applied after it was tested at the manufacturer or applied after having been serviced..[emoji848]

Makes sense. How would you reintroduce that pressure after disassembly? Or perhaps it was not designed for disassembly...
