    when were Tatra OT810s first produced?

    the Tatra OT810 is touted as a Czech post-war development of the German wartime Sdkfz 251. Any idea on the year when they were first produced? Performance wise (HP, speed, armour etc...), how do they stack up against the late war versions of the Sdkfz 251?

    I think the OT810 was produced in the early 1960s and has very little to do with the german 261s all the dimentions are different and the engine is totaly different as its a air cooled tatra

      Hi Thomas, there is a very good article in the old "Wheels & Tracks" magazine which goes into all the tech detail. I will sort it out and post the details, but it will be next week, as my Dad has all my magazines

      My friend owns one which is the best conversion I have ever seen to "251D" spec.

        the OT810 was compleatly sealed for chemical warfair so the top was coverd it also had pistol ports at the sides the some of the wheels are slightly different and the tracks but they are largly the same they had them in the film stalingrad unconverted im sure there are other bits but some one else will point them out

          Tatra OT 810

          Hi Thomas, The engine of the Tatra OT 810 is a V8 cyl-120 bhp ( Tatra 928-3 11752 cc aircooled diesel ) .
          Contrived and devolped in the mid-1950s ( 1953-1958 by the Tatra works in Koprivnice it was designated OT-810, in which OT stood for Obrneny Transporter, meaning armoured transporter, 810 was the Tatra design number.
          Quuantity production of the OT 810 took place during 1959-1963 in a factory at Detva in Slovakia. Nearly 1500 units were delivered to the MNO ( Ministry of Defence) .
          Crew 12 , patterned on the German Sd.Kfz.251 ( H kl 6 p ) Major differences: engine, dry-pin tracks, roof armour and detail mods.
          Its correct that my friend Bart Vanderveen (+) has written a great article in the Wheels & Tracks number 40.
          The max speed: 60 km/h, Lxwxh 5700x2100 ( late models 2190 )x 2100mm.
          Weights: Kerb 7600 kg, Gross 9000 kg.

            Thanks for the info guys, I believe many OT's have been converted to imitate the Sdkfz 251, looking fwd to seeing Adrian's pics, I've notoced a few offered for sale in the UK, look like alot of fun.

              Hi Thomas, here is my friends "251". The body has been completely rebuilt from the drivers compartment back, plus the front glasis plate reangled, rubber pads added to the tracks, etc.

              Hi Adam, I know "GD's" "251" and it is sadly not a patch on this one.

                    Hi Thomas, that is a very good question and is hard to answer? One done to such a good standard has never been sold before to my knowledge? So my best guess would be £15,000? George, my friend, was thinking of that figure a while ago. He has someone very interested in it. I will let you know what it sells for (if he does part with it) if he does not mind.

                      Adrian, I found this one listed for sale in the UK, perhaps you know the seller, it is a standard OT810 without any conversion work, £15,000 sounds like a bargain for your friend's vehicle

                        Hi Thomas, I do indeed know of the seller. Not sure what he is asking for them now? The ones with the angled armour to the bottom of the body near the tracks are a big job to convert.

                        I could have bought Georges "251" for £7,000 about 6 years ago but since then he has done a lot more work to the vehicle and it is much nicer now than it was back then. He says he would never convert another due to the amount of work it entailed. He could never "make it pay".
