Tiger-1 item.

Good afternoon / evening to all
I'm a collector of small Tiger-1 items, the available space doesn't permit me to own a turret or an engine, so the small things it is
Some of you may have seen this item elsewhere, so I thought you might be interested in how it looks now
Just a few "out of the ground" pics to see if you know what it is.

Okay, it is a bit obscure a bit tucked away in the lower part of the tiger-1.
The pictures below are from the excellent tiger-1 website of David Byrden http://tiger1.info/vehicle.html
The question, can you make out the corroded and rusted thing .. in the below pics

Here it is after several hours of cleaning.
As you can see the aluminium has been eaten away by corrosion, right through it in places.
The only colours that can be definitely identified were red oxide primer with black top coat..yes black, no trace of silver, green, or panzer grey
Numbers, part number [B]021 C2742-4
Two numbers upside down to the p/n, 82
Lastly, two square inspector marks with numbers inside, "A" or "4" "3"
The area around the stamped numbers showed the most serious corrosion,
I was keen to stop it in it's tracks, and prevent it from getting worse.

In case I'm boring you I'll get this finished tonight
Filling the holes and gauges as best I could with body filler .. without removing important details .. was a nightmare, the numbers etc had no work done near them, several fills were necessary in places, I haven't tried to get the thing silky smooth, there are still dimples here and there, especially in the inner curved surface.
The last step for me was to spray with a light coat of grey primer to give an even base colour, then a few light coats of red oxide, I'll leave the black top coat until a warmer day.
The steel catch rod .. it'll stay in the red for now.

Nice work on a part many would have discarded . How did you clean, by chemical or mechanical means? I'd have to do the same with an Unformer transformer's cover.

I wondered if the Internet had stopped I was eager to get the pictures up on here..maybe too eager, I didn't really give anyone the chance to message
Hello there Carles
Although the cover was in a bad state I was determined not to damage the part number..and the newly exposed stamps.
I'm used to slow arduous renovations, so out came the knives and screwdrivers..used to scrape and remove as much of the dirt and corrosion as possible.
No electrical machines were used the filler was simple P38 body filler sanded with extra care.
Having done a similar job on a KU3 gyro transformer box..so I'm quite used to it working on corroded aluminum
I've got a few more things for you to see in the near future, so I'll say cheeri for now.
