    Pak 43

Might be the only PAK 43 in the US. I don't recall if Aberdeen had one.

This one is at the U.S. Army Historical and Education Center, at the War College. It used to sit years ago near the Hessian powder factory and the statue of Frederick the Great. It was moved and then taken away for restoration. All I could see different is the new paint job. Not sure why they couldn't find some who knew the correct color though.

    Great gun indeed.

Maybe a next generation will use the correct color.

    Thanks for sharing.

It comes down to money. That horrible glossy olive green stands up to weather better than the correct color paints. It's usually up to the base commander to come up with funds to re-paint or restore static equipment so in the end cheap and long lasting often beats out correct.

        Pak

        Hi,

Great item, but its a Pak 43/41 and not a Pak 43, the pak 43 has four wheels and is on a cruciforn base.

Same barrel, same ammunition, but look completely different.

I wouldn't mind one of those in the garden.

And an old photo from Aberdeen. So, they did have the 43/41 as well as the 43. I just don't remember them.

                  Hi,

Is it the very same Pak that was at Aberdeen P G or another one ?

I know of 4 in the USA , the one from Fort Knox now at Fort Benning - the ond from APG now in Fort Lee if I am correct - this one in Carlisle and there is one more in Churchville New York.
Barrelnumbers are R-20 for APG - R-303 for Fort Knox - R-531 for Carlisle and the one in New york I don't have a number for yet

                      Pak

                      Hi Wally63,

Thank you, where would I find the R number, I shall be looking at Bovington Tank Museum Pak example next week.

The data I do have from it which is on the lafette is "hhg 1943, L271". Which should translate as the 271st Pak assembled by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG at their Berlin Tegel factory in 1943.

                      cheers lennard

                        Hi !

R-number can be found "stamped" at the breech block

                          pak

                          Hi,

Bovington's Pak 43/41 breech is stamped R-177, but also several "dkr" codes also stamped, that means its a Henschel manufactured breech.

                          cheers lennard
