      Hi,

are you sure these ammo-racks are from Panther ?

Furthemore the proportions of the rounds doesn't agree with these of the 7,5 cm PzGr 39/42.

In any case these racks came definitely not from Panther. Very likely they were mounted in Panzer IV (7,5 cm L/43 - L/48)

I've got one surely for 7,5cm Kwk40. As you can see the base is flat.

This one sold at E-bay recently could be for a 7,5 cm Kwk42, but difficult to confirm without any other reference. You can see it is slitghtly different.

Hi.. took the rack to W&P show and found the correct ammo for them.....
the normal 7.5 KWK was to long for them, (excuse my ignorance new learning curve for me )
the rounds that fitted were the solid core round and the APC round.
I'll post more once I clean them and have the rounds here.

                  Kind Regards

                    Hello Nick,

Sorry, I still have to revise my rack, and compare to your's.

I don't know what you mean by "the normal 7,5cm Kwk" as we have three different 7,5cm Kwk cases:

-The short 7,5 Kwk (37 for L/24) for early Pzkfpw IV and StuG III (et alter)
-the longer 7,5 Kwk 40 (for L/43 and L/48) for later Pzkpfw IV and StuG III (et alter)
-and the even longer 7,5 kwk 42 (L/70) mostly for Pzkpfw V Panther and Jagdpanzer IV.

As you can see in the pic below, you can have different lenghes for the Kwk40, depending on the kind of ammo loaded on the case, which would be the same for the racks. First you should find what case fits in those racks, and second what kind of ammo according to the lengh of the rack. This would also be valid for 7,5 Kwk 42 ammo rounds.

My rack has the cover missing, but if it had it the total length would be about 800mm, 790mm without. Even the Spreng Patrone 34 fits. So there were different racks for the different Kwk 40 ammo loads...

I have just acquired a relic example of this rack, see below, it has the lid missing and part of one side.

I have not yet tried to fit a complete Kwk 40 round in it yet as what is left of the lid is stopping it going in. I hope in the future to restore it, but need a drawing with dimensions so I can make a replacement lid. Can anyone help please.

Thanks guys, will keep nudging both of you, the drawing would be great.

Have managed to get it open with a lot of WD40 and a copper hammer.
