    Mercedes Serial Numbers

    Hey guys...

    I am curious...

A couple years back a Mercedes Limo/Staff car was being sold, and they had documents proving it was used by a high ranking official, as they were able to cross-reference the serial number to wartime documents.

Where would I go to find similar documents? Mercedes Archive?

    TIA

Mercedes can issue you a copy of the delivery sheet indicating who ordered originally the vehicle. But only that, nothing else about its career or units using it. (BTW in principle with Mercedes you need to be the owner of the vehicle to get the info from them (proof of ownership is needed). Linking a Mercedes -or any other WH vehicle- to units or individuals is very very difficult as little information of registration numbers is conserved today. If for some reason you know which unit used it (for example traces of unit's markings) you can try to research the surviving records, better try US archives like the NARA which are most digitalized contrary to the German ones which are a mess. And good luck.
