    Rust Removal on Panzer Parts

I have a few brackets for the Pz IV and III that I would like to remove rust from

What is the best way to do this while leaving what little paint remains?

Paint details are very valuable for later research, I would hate to strip it off and lose that bit of history

I've used Vinegar, but that can cause a little extra pitting if you leave it too long

I've heard that electrolysis is good for avoiding extra metal damage but that it can also remove paint

Ans what is the best way to protect it when finished? I use a light oil like WD40, but I've heard linseed oil is better

Electrolysis is great for removing rust but will remove paint too. You could look into Oxalic acid, that's what the grounddiggers use.

I use a cotton wadding metal polish called "Brite Shine" after a very gentle work over with a brass wire brush.
The polish brings old paint up a treat without damaging it.
Not sure if it's available in the states but it comes in a 3" wide 3" high round yellow tin can.
