    Hi Steven,

The best information we have at the moment suggests that this unit was a specialist Kompanie under the control of Infanterie-Ersatz-Regiment 36, and here's what I have:

    Infanterie-Ersatz-Regiment 36

Created on 29.8.1939 in Wiesbaden, WK XII, as the Staff for the Ersatz-Bataillon of the 36. Infanterie-Division; the unit moved to Lissa in den Warthegau (WK XXI) on 9.11.1939, and back to Wiesbaden on 10.8.1940; on 15.10.1941 the unit was designated as Infanterie-Ersatz-Regiment (motorisiert) 36; redesignated Grenadier-Ersatz-Regiment (motorisiert) 36 on 7.11.1942 and in December of 1943 the unit was again converted to no longer be motorized.

Now if you're actually looking for where a solider trained in this unit might have served, that's an entirely different matter. There's really no way to tell where a soldier was posted for sure at least not from his training unit information- it's a reasonable suggestion that he'd be sent to, in this case, one of the Infanterie-Regimenter in the 36. Infanterie-Division, or at least an Infanterie-Regiment that is in the same Wehrkreis as the training unit, but this isn't 100% always the case.

    Matt
