    Discovery

    Gentlemen,

While traveling through a small Bavarian town this summer, I discovered this grave site. It appeared not to be maintained very well so I have 'adopted' it and have appointed myself as the care-taker of this famous Panzer Commander's final resting place.

Thank you. I was aware that v. Oppeln had received the OL/S and his historic part in Normandy with the 22 Panzer Regiment.

I am also aware that a collector in Germany has his awards and documents.

          A true warrior!

              Good Job

              Michael,

I did the same with some unnamed CW graves on property my parents own in Chancellorsville. It gave me a surprising amount of satisfaction. Please post more pics if you have the opportunity.

                  Hi Michael,
in France there is a Magazine called 39/45 Magazine. In the September 2003 issue there is a very nice biography of von Oppeln-Bronikowski (in French and translated from German) which shows some interesting pictures and several of his award docs as well. it is WELL worth having. Back issues are available from Jean yves Nasse's bookshop in Paris or you can contact the publisher at: Editions.Heimdal@wanadoo.fr.

Good luck and I congratulate you on your efforts!
                  Cheers, Wade K.

                      Wade,

Thank you. I have seen the French article and a modified version of this article was also published in a German militaria magazine. My only concern regarding the article is that the RK attributed to V. Oppeln (Klein and Quenzer) clearly is not the one he is wearing in the above photo.
