    Panzer II Turret

    Hi All,

I thought some of you might be interested to see a project that I have just started. Its a replica panzer II AUSF B turret, of course it will eventually need a body to go with it. If anyone has got any over head pictures of this version of the turret, especially with the hatches open I would appreciate seeing them.

    Regards,

    Johann

Thanks kind for the comment, I will post updates as I go. I have to admit, that finding information, dimensions and photos of the early hatches has proved to be a real pain, especially pictures from above of open hatches. The search continues and I am sure that there are some out there somewhere. Until then I will continue with what I have.

      Regards,

      Johann

As panzermeyer has said, excellent work.

A few months back I was after information about how the Panzer II turret was operated, how the turret was traversed and the guns were elevated and fired etc. One helpful member posted the following site:

        http://panzerfaust.ca/AFV%20interiors/pz2b.html

which answered all my questions. Unfortunately most the of the other links no longer work. Anyway hope it helps.

          Thanks Ian,

There's a mass of information on that web site but unfortunately no pictures of the early turret flaps. The best source of visual information that I have got for the turret interior, although the tank has a round cupola, is the AFV interiors CD. I don't know if you have come across it but it allows you to rotate inside the turret of a museum vehicle, an excellent and valuable asset. If you like ww2 German AFV's its worth buying. I am currently constructing the vision ports and their opening mechanism, what fun but how complex. Each separate mechanical item is a project on in its own right.

          Regards,

          Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan for the heads up the CD, I hadn't heard of it but will look out for it.

Looking forward to seeing updates as your project develops.

              panzer II turret update.

              Hi All,

Just thought that I would update those interested on my progress. Its slow, but getting there. The turret hatches are complete, just need a bit more grinding. I have fabricated the lifting hooks and these are in place. The items that have taken the time are the vision ports and all the opening mechanism. What a pain and so complex. As you can see from the pictures the blank port covers are on and work well, its now time to fabricate the two covers with slots in.

I wish I could afford a genuine article but I am not a rich man and this is the nearest that I am going to get to my dream.

              Regards,

              Johann

The funny thing is that those hooks look better than the real ones.
