Correction on measurements. The width of the tread is 6.35 mm. The thickness of the plate is 2.2 mm. Carles, sorry about getting your location wrong. Those other tread patterns don't match though I have seen the criss-cross pattern in post #13 used on other Panzer IV restorations but the pattern I need is shown in post #8. I hope to be on the restoration team one day, but at this time I am just doing this search as a favor to the owner. 46IR thanks for the link. I will send him a message and see if he has anything.

      Hello Garry,

      No problem about the location.

I've being doing some research and, surprisingly, the 4 or 5 companies that produce that kind of pattern are in Argentina!!!! I'll try to find something in Barcelona and I will let you kmow. I can contact those companies in Argentina also, and ask for some information about the dimensions in the pattern. It might be cheaper for you to get it from Argentina than getting it from Europe. The only problem is that everything slows down in August and many companies only work in the mornings.

The other pattern pics were just for Panzerknacker12, as he mentioned 2 more.

Yes, I would appreciate any help. If you can make contact with Argentine companies to see if they have anything that matches, that would be very helpful. I have been doing searches on the Internet, but haven't seen anything close to that photo you posted. Did you see where I corrected the width measurement? The measurements were given to be in inches and I converted to metric, but it probably isn't the most exact. The owners gave me these measurements:

        Length of tread 3/4"
        Width of tread 1/4"
        Space between treads 11/16"

I don't know if that is helpful or not.

        Thanks,
        Garry

Well, I would think all measurements should be metric as that is what germans used.

Perhaps you should do your research in spanish. I looked for " plancha de hierro estampada" or "plancha de hierro repujada". Surprising most of the results where in Argentina and not Spain.

PS: I always look for images first. When I spot what I'm looking for, then I click to see the website.

The cris cross diagonal line photo is correct. Here is the other type I mentioned, also found in tanks as well.[IMG][/IMG]

That looks like the type commonly seen on Panzer IIIs and StuGs. I'm sure they were used on others as well. The JagdPanzer IV at Fort Benning does not have any tread pattern on its fenders. I wonder if there was a mismatch of different types of tread patterns on the same vehicle.

Which PzIV are you working on? The one in VA or former Littlefield?

Technically I'm not working on it yet, but it is the one at he American Armoured Foundation Museum in Virginia. They are planning on moving to West Liberty, Ohio at some time next year which will put it closer to me.

I thought that might be who wanted it.

They seem to be hunting mainly original parts.

                      Hellop,

Sorry, I've been a bit busy these last days. I saw a pic, somewhere, with the dimensions of the protuded parts of the stamped sheet, but don't know where now. I'll try to find it and also contact a couple of producers to request info.

BTW, I posted some pics of restored panzers in a thread, some time ago, but not too sure pics show the pattern of the stamping on the fenders, so might not help much.

I think that is the littlefield IV that did not sell in the big littlefield auction (They wanted 2 mill USD + for it)

You're right, that is the Littlefield Panzer IV. Thanks for posting that link. I noticed that the pattern on the fenders runs perpendicular to the fender while the pattern runs diagonal on the AAF museum Panzer IV. I wonder if they were made in the same factory, but different vendors supplied the tread plate material.

By my experience, some of the details can be not original (even made by germans). They are good (maybe not perfectly), but made from incorrect material (somebody take material they had and make detail approximately looks like original). All needs to be rechecked...

from what I've gathered, the panzers that went to syria had syrian fenders added and changes to the cupola for mounting a machine gun they liked at the time.

Israel also pulled some of the engines after the war with syria and installed Sherman and other engines so they could be used as training vehicles.
