    Panther A in Ambush Camoflage?

    Hi All -

Does anyone have any photographic evidence of a Panther A without Zimmerit painted in an ambush pattern? Doing Tamiya's old Ausf A kit and don't want to put Zimmerit on it as I have an Ausf A in ZImmerit already but don't want to paint it iaccurately, either.

Thanks for any and all help!

There is a profile of an Ausf A without zimmerit in the book 'Pz.Kpfw. V Panther In attack and defence'

    12th SS Divisions SS-Obersturmfuhrer von Ribbentrop's 304.

    Not in ambush scheme though.

Could probably provide you a photo of the profile if you are interested.

Im not sure if im undertanding your statement correctly, but Im looking at von Ribbentrops panther, 304 right now in Historica Normandie 7 au 9 juin 44, page 60. Two photos of it, clearly has Zimmerit on it?

I am sure I have seen photos of Panthers in the Ardennes without Zimmerit and in the ambush pattern. Problem is, that most photos of wrecked Panthers have a light coating on snow on them, or are not quite clear. I am now looking and find photos of Tiger IIs like that.

PS: The "Battle of the Bulge; Then and Now" book has numerous photos of camoed Panthers without Zimmerit. But so far, I can not find one which clearly shows the ambush pattern "dots" on them.

Thanks, guys - I have the ATB Bulge book - I'll give it a look. I"m also considering putting a D commander's cupola on it and doing a Kursk paint job.

In the book I mentioned it is depicted with no zimmerit coating. Obviously this is just a profile though. They do accompany the profile with a photograph of said tank but this is far too small to make any details out.

That is the book in question with the '304' profile I am on about. Wonder how they managed to omit the fact it has zimmerit! Cheers for the heads up!

According to Mr. Jentz, factory applied camo paint jobs commenced by order 19 Aug 1944. 07 Sep 1944 was the order to stop the application of Zimmerit. MNH complied with this order on panther G's Fgst.Nr. 128562-565, 568,569, 572-579, 581, 583-593 and all after 128595 completed on 14 Sep 1944. If you like Panthers, the Panzertracts series is a must have. I can personally vouch for the accuracy of the line drawings, as in the Sdkfz250 book, the 1/35 drawings are within 1/4" of my original 250.
