    Jagdpanther or Jagdpanzer IV?

Hello everyone, this is my first post, and maybe someone in this forum can help me solve a conundrum. I am a dealer in original wartime photographs, and I recently happened across an interesting photo of a GI standing in front of a knocked out, German tank destroyer. I am having trouble identifying this particular assault gun, I believe it to be either a Jagdpanther, or a Jagdpanzer IV. The reverse of the photo says: "Knocked out German tank, Duren." I believe that the photo was taken by a member of the U.S. 1st Army somewhere near the Hurtgen Forest during Operation Queen, and I know that the crossroads at Duren were an important objective during that operation. Can anyone help with the identification of this tank destroyer? Any further information about the unit or battle would be greatly appreciated!

    Neither - it's a Jagdpanzer 38T - Hetzer.

"Knocked out" looks more like abandoned cause a pulled track.

            Very interesting Photo BTW.

              Jagdpanzer

There is a lot going on in the photo, I am fond of it as well! If anyone is interested, this photo is going up for auction in my ebay shop on Sunday, thanks for the provenance guys!

Interestingly the bell tower in the background has been taken out - as a precaution against snipers/observers or were they in there?

NOT a new photo, seen it many times......if you are bidding CHECK it is ORIGINAL if they say it is.

Other photos show a hit/pen on its right side

This most certainly IS an original snapshot from a 1st Army soldier.....I have over a hundred photos taken by the same soldier, in Cologne, Wrexen, and Duren, and he appears in most of them, you are most clearly mistaken sir! The soldier on the left is the one standing in front of the Jagdpanzer......[IMG][/IMG]

Then the ones I have seen are of the same TD and a VERY similar angle but maybe by another hand....Sir !

I'm going with knocked out. The mantlet is displaced, the periscopes look like they blew out the hull and peeled back the rain shield, the MG mount is displaced as well.

I'm sure I am paranoid but the image almost appears photoshopped as though the figure in the foreground has been superimposed on a stock image. The lighting on the figure seems subtly different than on the TD.

Well the images with the troops are not taken with the same camera as the 38t

Pretty sure the location is not Duren. Would like to see the photos of it from other angles if anyone has knowledge of them.
