Sir, as the owner of a sidecar bike for >12 years and with many thousands of Km’s under my belt I’d strongly suggest great caution when purchasing a bike! Especially the Zundapp bikes because of their notoriously troublesome transmission issues (front end can also be troublesome). When I see a shiny bike w/ what looks like no road miles on it, I become all the more cautions. Honestly, these bike are so much fun but beware – be forewarned, it’s much better to buy a bike and have it restored then to buy a restored bike.

Why people restore bikes, tanks, kubels, etc in such disgusting bright colors so far from the original patterns?
I feel really bad when I see these horrible restorations

well, what I have read/found is that original German paint had more glint then that of today... I bet you'll disagree?

Have you ever restored a bike,tank or kubel or have you ever seen a original painted tank maybe some of them looked disgustingly bright when new people spend thousands of £ or $ on them maybe you can do better or probably not just be happy that someone is restoring ww2 items.so you can have the opportunity to winge about them

I can tell you right now, i have ridden thousands of miles on a Zundapp never a problem with the transmission, they work perfect when built correct. I stand by my initial comments below and I know there’re some bikes in N. America but in Europe we have hundreds and I can say with tremendous certainty that if the mechanic who assembles end items (like the transmission and or the engine) improperly (and we see this frequently with bike coming from the East), those bikes typically experience mechanical failure in just a very few Kms. I know the deal as do you, people who cut corners with these bike do not have the many hours of enjoyment as we do.

If you disagree then fine but wait until the day you have a friend who finds wooden pistons in their bike (and the engine ran at the market!)!

These vehicles are high quality and have high tolerances for assembly, I suggest that any buyer buys a basket and has a trusted mechanic build that bike back to standard with a 1 year warrantee (then you’ll know what you have).

Hi Dan,

First I am not really in any kind of a disagreement with you. I just said if those Zundapps are built right, you wont have a problem at all. I dont know if you have any clue who I am and what I do but I have seen the worst of the worst on these bikes and it never amazes me how people go to such extreme to fool the adverage buyers. I would have to agree with your last statement on buying a unrestored bike and getting everything done right UNLESS and I say this with caution and care ...the motorcycle is built by a trusted name in the business...dont need to name people.

i have restored for a long time and must sell it with regrets
i am always looking for a good restored ks750
but i have not find a good restoration at the moment
on the market are a lot of bad and not corect restoration but this are not why i am looking for

Hi,do a seach on U.Tube "KS750 rebuild" for the horrors that could await you if you spend a lot of money on a machine that has been bodged up! Would love one of these bikes be it the BMW or the Zundapp but just to risky. Regards David.
