Unknown Kiste - DAK - Wood! Help!

    Hi,

Any idea what went in this? Looks like there was something removed from the inside right side. It has handles also... More pictures can be taken!

There is Wehrmacht writing underneath the DAK Paint - I dont want to remove it! There was a package/contains list stuck to the inside but has been removed.

It was sealed shut and sent home from the front - On top was a dont drop sticker in German! On the side still is the package address - Hard to make out the names but was sent on the 13th May 1943. (Any idea where the DAK were at that point?)

    Measurements - 41cm / 28cm / 48cm

I could read the name of the sender - Checked the Volksbund website - Seems (the same name) he was killed one year later in Russia.

I also found out that the the day this was sent was the day the DAK capitulated in North Africa!

But what was it for? Anyone know any reference sites for Kiste/boxes from the Wehrmacht? The info I want to know is under the sandfarben - but I like the character of this box and don't want to remove it just to see what it was for..

Hope someone can point me in the right direction or know what it was for!

Ade thank you very much! I haven't found an exactly the same one but I have emailed him to see if he has any ideas... The closest one I could find was for Panzerfaust Heads.

Still no ideas? The French site email address returned a failed delivery - obviously not working anymore.

          Any help?

With a May '43 postal label it isn't going to be for Panzerfaust warheads.

Could have been for a piece of delicate radio kit, but then again the catches don't look substantial enough. Bit of a mystery.

            Kind Regards,
            Simon
