    Tiger hunting

    I was talking to my neighbor last night. He flew a piper L-4 as a
    artillery spotter and forward observer for Patton. He was telling
    me how the Tigers would try to hide in thickets and brush piles just
    off the main roads. He would fly down the roads at tree top
    level to spot the tanks for artillery strikes.

    Yep that was their job, Army of Division assigned scout planes for artillery spotting (and Intel).
    "Eyes in the sky" like our modern day drones!

      I guess that would be really 'risky bussiness'. By then any german tank could have an MG34 out the turret, for AA defense.
