So was that Panther left in Paris after 1945 as a sightseeing object?

If i remember correctly,the Panther was a IFF memorial Niels. It stands now in Saumur.

This is one of two Panther tanks(one Ausf. A and one Ausf. G) that were captured in excellent condition in Dompaire in September 1944, and brought back to Paris for display purposes. They both belonged to the 112th Panzer Brigade. THey were displayed at the Invalides in Paris for more than 30 years.

Today the Ausf. A is displayed at the barracks of 501-503ème Régiment de Chars de Combat, and the Ausf. G is being restored to static display condition at Saumur Tank Museum, having the engine and gearbox being removed recently.

Hi,

The Panther ausf A was always in Paris and was abandonned with some shell damage in the Jardin du Senat in August 1944.

There is a thread on this forum about one year ago that has all the photographs to show this. The shell impact damage over the right track sprocket is identical.

Somehow Saumur wants us to believe that dompaire story for both Panthers, but that is totally incorrect.

I remember seeing that one in Les Invalides when a was a kid, about 40 years ago, on my way back to England after some hollidays down in the south. I guess my father might still have a pic around somewhere.

There was a thread on here not too long ago when documentation was brought up from immediate-battle, the 70s, and in recent times all confirming this was an original piece from the Battle for Paris.

Some good detectives here pointed out hull issues that perfectly matched up. This is a good pic to confirm it was already in place at that early post-war time.

Some other informations about Panther Tank of Saumur to complet your information. Sorry I was not on this Forum in 2009, so I give informations only today as I am a member of Saumur Museum Association !!

This Panther was in the years 1950's in front of Invalid Museum (In Paris) with another. (General Leclerc give them to General Koenig when entering in Paris as a present in 1944, it was 2 Panthers captured during the Battle of Dompaire ) and they stay in front of Invalid Museum until Years 1970's

THE FIRST IN THE YEAR 1970 (LOOK THE IMPACT IN RED ON THE FRONT MUDGUARD)



THE SECOND AT THE SAME PERIOD



In the Years 1970's the two Panthers are offered to Saumur Museum.

The first is today in Military Camp of Mourmelon (YOU CAN SEE ALWAYS THE IMPACT !) :





The second is the Panther wich you want to know the story. Today restoration has beginning :

The thread you posted from 2009 is in fact two pages longer than you show, and in those extra pages CHRISOU, who represents the Saumur Museum, agrees with the evidence that the Ausf A is from the Jardin du Senat, Paris 1944, which he then says he will present to the Saumur Museum boss, but acknowledges that he is only repeating the written record about the Dompaire origins of these Panthers .

The Dompaire story may be true for the Ausf G, but there were several other Panthers in the Jardin du Senat in 1944.

If someoine could tell me how to post photo, in detail, I will put the photo evidence on this thread.

Hi Bullitt,

Many thanks for posting that photograph.

I think the confusion arises because I have a photo showing two Panther Ausf G in Northern France in late 44-45, they have been captured by the French Army and both have been painted with the big cross of Lorraine and map of France, and the rear one looks very much like the Paris Ausf G in details.

But like I said both are Ausf G, so its probably one of these G and the original Paris 44 ausf A that are on show.

Still cannot post photos !!!!!!!!!!!
