You are refering to the BBC production "D-Day: Reflections of Courage" shown in the States on the Discovery Channel. This production used only 1 Panzer III and it was suppled by the Bovington Tank Musuem. The other 21st PD panzers were the product of creative camera work and digital film editing.

    As regards "D-Day to Berlin"

"D-Day to Berlin" employed the FV432 "StuG IIIs" and one of the T-34 "Tiger Is" converted for "Band of Brothers."

A T-34 "Panzer IV" was also used in "D-Day to Berlin." This heavily modified vehicle has turret and hull "schurzen" and was painted in winter white wash scheme for a scene dealing with the Battle of Bulge.

I just saw "Is Paris Burning?", the black and white film form the 60's this weekend. What were the German tanks in the movie that asault the Police HQ were the Resistance is held up? They didn't look like modified T-34 or US tanks.

The Panthers were built on surplus M24s. One example of this film prop conversion can be seen on display at Saumur.

Wow, Did you make those screen grabs? They are probably the clearest I've ever seen (unless they are real pics made during filming).

One thing about Battle of the Bulge however, is those tanks are M47's, not M48's, as well as the curious fact that some had T-shaped muzzle brakes, while most seem to have had cylindrical ones. All from the Spanish Army apparently which was one of the largest users of this tank when the US got the M48 into service which was seen as a better vehicle.

I had a dvd of a Russian film called "A Soldiers Father" which curiously enough features a T-44 tank taking the place of a T-34! Its a hard movie to find! I managed to snap it up on ebay though. Not bad viewing either. Not sure if the JS-2's featured were the real thing or not....

There is at least one movie that I am aware of that has a T-44 being vis-modded as a Tiger 1, movie is called "Act by Situation". I am looking for it but dont have it yet

One thing I liked most about Saving Private Ryan (apart from the soundtrack) was the little SdKfz2(?). A very nice looking vehicle and as far as I've been told it is not a vis-mod at all, but from some private collector!

                Gavin:

I take my screen captures using Intervideo WinDVD, cause I bought the Hogan's Heroes DVD set that came out a little bit ago. This program is really great if you want to take screens from DVD's.

Most of the referecnce books also lean toward T34, cheap easy to access and re use.

                  Easy to modify as well.

Top of the list would undoubtedly be a radio, the FuG5 set, and among other items those little pouches for MG34 ammunition- if we can obtain one we could possibly get others made. Outside we are still looking for a jack, the sort of useful thing that might still be lying around. So, this is a general appeal for all Tiger enthusiasts to keep their eyes open and spot whatever is available. If you care to purchase and donate it that would be perfect but mainly we need to know about it. If you don't find anything but still want to help we are always grateful for financial donations; the main appeal may have finished but the project will never entirely end until every last detail is complete.

The halftrack in SPR was a converted Czech halftrack (Tattra OT180?) to look like an SdKfz251. The only way to realy tell is the track is slightly differant than the German type.

The way technology is moving, I don't think it will be very long before we start seeing computer generated Panthers and tigers in movies that will be indistiguishable from the real thing. And they can blow them up too!

Recently, they recieved on loan the Tiger I from Saumur. Neither the APG nor the Saumur Tiger I were runners. Currently, they have a pretty good Tiger collection in Munster:

                          - Tiger I (from Saumur)
                          - Tiger II
                          - Sturmtiger (from WTS)

The Tiger at the Wheatcroft collection may be the Tiger I from APG. It went to England after it left Germany. Wonder whether it will be the Tiger I that runs or the alleged copies they were supposed to make?

The tiger I displayed in Munster was returned back to Saumur.
The Tiger at the Wheatcroft collection IS the Tiger I from APG.

By the way, if anyone could send me a recent photo of this APG Tiger, I will thank him a million.

You could have a look to this file, which lists all the surviving Tiger tanks (including Tiger I, Tiger II, Jagd and Sturm) with their current location..

I only have a very old photo of the APG tiger I in this document for the moment, so I'm looking for a recent one..

What was that miniature tracked thing that appeared in one episode? Supposed to have beed a radio control "tank" - remember: Lebeau drove the thing around and between the barracks while Hogan yel;led out directions.
