Panzer 88, The Movie?

I have been seeing some internet traffic about an upcoming movie, "Panzer 88". As I understand, Peter Jackson's FX Company, Weta Workshop has signed on to do the effects.

Apparently, Weta has a full size knockoff, reproduction of a panzer IV, H/J and possibly a 1:1 scale Panzer VI, King Tiger Reproduction. From what I gather, most of the filming will be done in New Zealand.

Anyway, the story line is about a 5 man tiger crew who, late in WWII on the Eastern front, encounter a supernatural beast! I have posted some of the concept art pulled from the "Panzer 88" facebook page.

It looks like an interesting movie, though I would rather see a historically based action movie involving panzers than a SIFI movie with panzers. Question, is there anyone on the forum that knows anything else about this movie or is involved in the production?

Why can't we make a movie about a real Pz crew on the scale of SPR? A viewpoint from the other side maybe? You may be surprised when many think this is a real story considering the poor interest in history the current generation has in general. Ha!!

I agree with you on that point! "Letters from Iwo Jima" was from the view point of the Japanese....Seems like there could be an equivalent from the German perspective, right? Ooops, I forgot, this is Hollywood.

The makers of this flick have put a lot of detail into the panzers consitering that this is a SIFI movie.

The reproduction panzer IV pictured here is the one used in the movie. according to the producers, the Panzer VI used in this movie is still an industry secret.

Such a pity they're making this fiction movie instead of basing this movie on real events. Ruins it all for me to be honest.

Why is the T34 a Modell 1940? It should be a T34/85 or even a T44... looks like wrong time frame here.

But interesting project, like "Arbiter" or "Iron Sky".
