      Good find

That is a nice looking can, the manufacture's name at the bottom appears to have only made these cans for the Waffen SS. Harry

if i recall, these cans were remade after the war using the original press. However, I think there is a difference in the breather pipe arrangement in the neck. If you show a photo of that part of the can, you can tell if it is wartime or not. Wartime is round, post war isnt

            Looks ok to me.

I don't have one, but many similar SS-marked (mfg Sandrik) Jerry-cans have been found in the Finnish Lapland - left there by the 6.-SS-Gebirgs-Division.

Here's one for you to compare:

I have looked for years for a wartime photo of an SS gas can. Has anyone had luck with this?

Yes, the one pictured looks to be a correct one. The post war cans have two tell tale details that they got wrong when they reproduced them: The weld/angle of the handles that connects to the can and second there is a sunburst or daisy stamp on the top of the pouring spout. Yours looks correct.

Plus the lid is different with a different rib on top and I think the hole on the lid lip is on the wrong side.I read on the net that they fill the unmarked modern can with water then freeze it to stamp in the ss runes and sandrik markings onto it so the can dosn't bulge inwards when struck.Regards David.

There are pics from the Fuhrer Bunker showing where Hitler's and Eva's bodies were burned - they clearly show SS marked gascans - look at the beginning and 2:30 mark of this youtube clip - blow it up for clarity, There are better pics of them as well but I'll have to search for them.

There are more wartime pictures around with SS Kanister. Sometimes people try to make a good deal and tell the fake story, "it is a post war copy". Of course, there are many fakes, but also original ones.
