Another battle field relic! Pz IV

Again a warrelics forum posting from a while ago worth repeating here!

Does anybody know the faith of this Syrian Army Panzer IV that was left on the Golan heights? Was it ever recovered?

After the Bulgarian panzers discovery, you would think people are realizing the value of such vehicles and that these would get salvaged sooner or later!

I think that this tank is in an Israeli Army tank target practice area in the Golan Hts. near the old Bagdad to Damascus pipeline road . I was through there in 2006 and although I did not see this particular tank I did see alot of US M4 halftracks and T-34's,T-66 and other military vehicles all used for target practice.Some are in the assembly yards of the tank units stationed in the Golan as displays, hopefully this one made it into one of those.

Up to 40 were actually used in the Syrian Army along with some STGIII's. Some were taken by Israel and preserved during the 6 Day War. They are in Israel now. Not sure about this one though...

If this was a target tank it would have a large number of holes.
We used to have many Shermans and other things we used on ranges.

After a while there is less metal than holes on most.

This thing is really complete, wonder if they are unable to sell them.

It would be worth a pile of shekels.

I seem to recall reading in one of the books about Sam Cummings (i.e. Interarms) that years ago the Syrians (who were clients of Cummings) offered to give him one of these WWII German tanks. Per the book, Mr. Cummings gave serious thought to accepting the offer and was going to display the tank outside of Interarms' headquarters. Mr. Cummings, however, declined the offer as he decided the tank was not worth the expense of transporting it back to Interarms' headquarters.

If you took a vacation over there and visited some of these old relics and liked to own one of them....Who would you talk to about it? Is this property Israili Government before it gets setled? Wow what a find? Neato torpedo! Geo.
