My WWII reenacting group has an operational Hetzer that was restored after coming off of a swiss army gunnery range. I believe it is wartime manufacture taken over by the swiss and updated and used for a short period. I am sure fellows here can tell you more about the swiss hetzer than I can. There is an original Kubelwagen, 43 production in the unit as well. Chris

Sorry but I couldn't help myself. The Swiss Hetzer looks like Swiss Cheese after being on the range!!! Bill

That was a good one.. and it did. They repaired all of the holes but a 2cm glance shot for character. I know the swiss hetzers commonly had muzzle breaks but beyond that, I don't know. If anyone is interested, I can try and link to the unit site if it is allowed. Chris

Is it just me or did then german army put sidecar on the left and sometimes on the right?
The reason I ask is because I own two harleys with sidecars there on the right of the bike as you sit on it, but I have seen war footage of thier bikes with the sidecar on the right but sometime on the left.
                        Can anyone enlightent me thanks.

                          Bike sidecar

I'm not positive about this but I think the photos themselves may be the root of thinking they were on bith sides. I'm relatively sure they were always on the right. As far as the photo problem, here is what I've discovered/wondered. In some photographs from the period, I've noticed that some pictures appear backwards. One picture of a Panther ausf. A is one I remember, with the drivers vision port being on the right of the tank in the picture, which isn't correct. I'm not familiar with the methods they used to develop the negatives back then, or if they used some other method of picture taking I'm not even aware of, but it seems some pics turned out backwards when developed. I may be way off, but this was just something I noticed.

I believe you are correct when it comes to photos I have even seen photos portriad photos of assult gun commanders that are clearly backwards, but I am talking about actual film footage that shows the sidecar on the left as opposed to the right.
                            Thanks for your reply.

There aren't actually any Swiss Hetzers they were all manufactured by the Germans in Czechoslovakia, after the war the Czechs reconditioned a few picked up from battlefields and produced a few from WWII parts left over in the factory these were then sold to Switzerland and during their service life were modified by the Swiss by fitting a muzzle brake to the gun and re-engining mostof them
