      Can anyone translate the site which chronicles this event? My take was that the W-SS was abandoning Beloves to attempt to make it to the West, when they got caught in a Soviet turkey shoot.

            No, I don't, and what I cannot figure out is whether some elements elected to surrender to the local populace, while others decided to high-tail it out. Here, the SS men are already stripping off their insignia upon surrender:
