    "Lightning" panzer unit?

    Hello everyone,

What training or frontline panzer btn used large yellow lightning as a tactical mark? I've got at least 3 38(t) tanks with such a strange symbol painted instead of number code (see pictures below)

    Thanks a lot

    Lightning

As the lightning flash is virtually identical to the standard Wehrmacht insignia for "signals" often seen on flags and uniforms, is it not possible that these two Pz38(t) are the signals officers vehicles of a tank Regiment or Battalion.

If it was then they are quite silly to advertise it - They may as well have painted a bulls eye on their tank.

I was wondering the same thing, except that the tanks look like they've just been fully refurbished/maintained. The four soldiers have an early-war look: I wonder if these may not be either training tanks, or if the designation was painted on to note that they'd been converted to incorporating German radio equipment, prior to being issued and to the painting of unit/tactical signs.... I very much look forward to some authoritative information on these interesting pictures!

My colleagues found two more photos of this sign, both in PzTracts books by T.Jentz.
One is 38(t) again, but another one is PZIII!

It was also a suggestion, that lightning bolt is a Magdeburg Arsenal storage mark.

But.... it was also a post of a PzIII in action - again with a lightning....
