Panthers in motion - open days in the WTD Trier

Last weekend the WTD (Wehrtechnische Dieststelle) 41 in Trier - responsible for testing wheeled and tracked BW equipment as everyday business - had two open days for the public. Beside the test equipment, several actual vehicles and prototypes (some obsolete and some actual tested) some WW 2 afv where on show. All of them are known as exhibits of the WTS Koblenz, but some are not on public display for years. And they where not only on display, some where shon in motion: Panther, Jagdtpanter, T 34 / 85, the Stuart and - I did not know it is a rummer - the Pz III M. Beside this tanks the Hummel, the Pz JG 1 and the Bergepanther where presented. Although the Bergepanther was complete from the outside it is still empty as the restoration process of this components ist still under way ...

Some pictures can be found here: http://www.multi-board.com/board/ind...threadID=41386

Also there are some videos to be found on youtube...

    Regards,

    Jens

This is fantastic! As you mentioned, it's very rare to get to see these vehicles.

      Best,

Those vehicles from Koblenz don't seem to be coming back any time soon. I was down in Koblenz last week to visit the Panzer displays there, but they had none of their WW2 Panzers left! I was told about their move to the facility in Trier, but also that the facility is normally not open to the public. I asked whether the Panther, Pz IV, etc would ever return in the future to public display, but they didn't know with all the budget problems, etc. The museum is still worth visiting, but no longer to see Panzers. What a sad loss.

              Hello,

There was no open house at the WTD Trier in 2010 and 2011.

              Regards,
              Wim.
