    Hetzer hull working in quarry

Interesting pictures from the Czech detector website, of a Hetzer working in a quarry.

Can one tell if it was originally a Hetzer or a 38t chassis?

          Great stuff Gary!

          Don,
I think it's definately a Hetzer. The drive sprockets on the front have a solid outer ring, on a 38t there is a set of holes in the outer ring. I'm guessing the change was because of the weight difference, the 38t about 9-10 tonsand the Hetzer about 15-16 tons. Also the bottom front armour plate looks to be welded which would be consistent with the Hetzer, the 38t was riveted. Notice also that they have a road wheel from a prime mover halftrack for the right rear guide wheel. The left rear guide wheel is also not of Hetzer origin, but I'm not sure what it's from. Maybe there is a halftrack laying around the quarry somewhere??!! Cool to see some of this stuff still in use, although it would also be cool to see it returned to its original state!!!

Thanks, Jared - I appreciate that information. Great to see a "runner", even if it's been "civilized"!

I believe that was a crane in France which has since been rescued.

I remember watching a logging show on discovery and seeing a Sherman they used to lift logs...

I also heard stories of a home wrecking company that used Sherman for that purpose...I'm positive they did that real well
