It is missing one side so it makes it a bit lighter, and i could lift it a bit from ground. I found it already on sommer, I knew there is something big but i cant get it out from a bog. So week ago I take winch and pulled it out, I also pulled out piece from track: 8 ostkette links connected with pins. So this week it began to snow and i take sleigh and pulled carriage out + 4 links, other links left to woods for next time.

Probably then it's an sFH 18M, which potentially could have been used on a Hummel - see here for an example of a Hummel with a muzzle brake:
This was the prototype though and it was fond that the muzzle brake wasn't required, so it was removed from production versions. So in all likelihood yours is from an artillery piece.

Surely this is a muzzle brake from a 10.5 cm leFH 18/40 artillery piece.

But, hey, Tom thanks for that link to that museum in Crimea !
For sure that muzzle break is a strange thing !
Mbr.f.s.F.H : Mundüngbremse für sFH .... What a pity the rest can’t be read !
......f Sf ... für Selbstfahrlafette ?

But well... considering the size...
See how huge is the MB on that pic of the Hummel prototype ( compared to the guy standing or compared to the wheel of a PzIV (something Bullit knows) ) ! So the muzzle brake for a 8.8cm or 7.5cm is just a toy compared to it !
It makes a good counterweight to the gun !
Frank certainly knows the weight as he has to organize transport to the US !
My question to Frank: is it worth it ? It's a rare thing but for the moment nobody can tell what it is for ? You can have rare things with a lesser value than more common things but well desired.
Cheers
Eric

Nah, the StuH42 is just a baby - 105mm compared to this 150mm giant!Last edited by steverobertsbbc; 11-10-2012, 05:21 AM.
