Fantastic! An early StuG III, either Ausf A or B - identified by the design of the leading wheel.

          Stug or PZ III?

          Hi

did you find any specific parts to state this was an early StuG III?
the rear-end section that was found is the same on early Panzer III's.

BTW this one got a hit in his tail plate. it shattered the upperarmour plate , and a half round hole was made in the lower tailplate. the impact also cracked the sidearmour partly.

In autumn 2011 the first time went to this place. Here they dug up the rollers. There were also found details which indicate that this was the Stug.

              Panzer 4 muzzle break

I found this one in Russia and shipped it back to USA. I was told it was from a Panzer 4, does anyone know if its the same gun and brake used on Stugs or Pak 40? In other words, is this set up unique to Panzer 4, if its a panzer 4 at all? Thanks

This would appear to be a mid production muzzle brake, note oval baffle up front and round baffle at rear. As far as I'm aware it could have come from either a Stug or a Pz IV, basically anything with a long barrelled L/48 75mm.
It could also come from a 75mm Pak40, which I suspect it did come from. Reason being is that I have not seen that slight rise in the barrel, just before the first lock ring, on tank guns.
                Could be wrong, though.

ID help please. is this brake from a 10cm Wasp

Hi guys. Got this from the diggers in former East Berlin area. They say it came from a swamp near Berlin from a destroyed Wasp (Wespe). It was badly corrodied and rusty, so I am doing a winter camo restoration. All of the model books and references I have dont show this double flange break on Wasp. Its definitely a 10cm and I trust my diggers that its a wartime piece from 1945. Can anyone help with an ID or steer me to a photo or reference work with this double flange break?

Might be a German 10.5 cm leFH 18 howitzer muzzel break.

                      Wasp muzzle break

Thanks, you are right, its a 10.5. Any idea of where i can find photos with this type break. Is it possible this field gun cannon was mounted on a wasp, even late war?

The Wespe in the Munster tank museum has what appears to be exactly that muzzle break.

Whether it is factory fitted I don't know.

Also, a muzzle brake, not the same but similar, is shown on this webpage (last one) www.achtungpanzer.com/wespe.htm

                          Muzzle break

                          Hi

The wespe in the Munster /Koblenz museum has a retrofitted muzzle break.
the vehicle came from APG without muzzle break and during restoration in Germany it received this double flange muzzle break.

The last photo ( Achtungpanzer) shows a prototype of the wespe.

this type of muzzle break was more used on late models of the LfH 18 10.5mm but it was also fitted on some of the StuH 42 assaultguns that had a 10.5 gun .

                            Double flange muzzle break

Thanks, these photos are exactly what I was looking for and now I am certain this is a wartime 10.5 break.
