K5 rail gun- are these wood slats?

I have paint question about the wood slats, (they are wood right?), that make up the
platform areas of the trucks for the gun assembly. Those would have been, like other
wood that having maybe at one time been painted the base colour, shown a worn, dirty
oxidized grey colour of a high traffic area. Or was this area not a high traffic
area thus leaving the base colour fairly intact. Here are a couple of shots of the
place I mean.

I'm doing the DML kit too. The interior spaces are primer red. I have gathered a fair amount of info off the net. Email me and I will share some good sites with you. The more I fing the more there is to correct on the kit. For this much money you would hope they could get it right!

A rail gun is going to be my winter project, but it seems the Trumpeter kit is better of the two, what have you heard ?

Get the Trumpeter kit- it is 50% more accurate than the DML one- which I have abandonded and thrown in the bin- part of it my fault part of it Dragons. Thanks Mike as well.
