    Panzerjägerabteilung 88

    Hi,

Just a quick one. Has Panzerjägerabteilung 88 ever been to the Nord African theatre ?
    Thanks

    Hello

No, not as part of the 18.Pz.Div. nor during the later time as Heerestruppe.

The wearer however, could have certainly served in Africa though at some point.

That's totally true Glenn, but would he wear his PzJgr Abt 88 shoulderboards on his DAK tunic ?

I don't think it is necessarily a DAK tunic, just tropical (Southern Russia perhaps)....I know for a fact that jacket came out of a Canadian Vet Estate some years ago and is untouched.

One look at that cufftitle, and it is obvious that it has been on the jacket for 60 years. The sellers photos are terrible.

Are we both talking about the DAK tunic on the e-stand ? It's not a Southern Russia that one, it's totally DAK IMO. Should it have been SR than no problem with me. It is indeed a very nice tunic and maybe as you say completely correct Glenn but why than 88 th PzJgrBattl shoulderboards ? They've never been in NA !

Why not? The officer could have been in NA,then transferred to another unit afterwards and continued to wear his jacket.

Yes of course that's true Glenn. But do you think he has wore this tunic in Russia ? Are the collar tabs correct ?

I don't see why it could not be worn in Russia, but it could also have been worn as a walking out as well...I assume the tabs are correct (possibly private purchase) but I have never seen another set to compare.

Right, I see what you mean Glenn. The walking-out dress is possible of course, the Russian field is a question for me, but when you say it is possible than maybe.
The problem is indeed the collartabs. That's where I have my biggest doubts, apart from the shoulderstraps. I've send pics to Scott P. too and he isn't convinced of the tabs either. Just like him I believe that having these on a DAK uniform is quite unusual. Do you have pics showing these on a DAK uniform ?

Well, all I can say is that considering the source that this jacket came from,I sure do think they are OK.

                              As requested.
