thank you for your reply, I think the bike you are going to buy is a wartime machine, though it has the wrong lever on the handlebar (front brake and clutch) Also the left side lever (Zündungregulierhebel) is wrong, it should be an Amal just like the right one.
Those lever are taken from post war NSU.
The saddle is also something wrong or repaired.
Cheers

Hello Nick, and motorcycle enthousiasts,
This thread started with pictures of your 1943 251 OSL project.
Which had potential. Yes. But the total restoration would be a long term and complex work.
At some point the bike was sold off to a dealer. (traded, actually) This dealer started restoration but it proved a hell of a work and the bike was left half-finished in the far corner of the garage.
I eventually purchased it and spent the following winter to complete it.
This is how it looks now: Some transformation...
I am still working to get the engine running properly. Just found out that the camshaft is set wrong. Carburettor already changed. Dynamo is out for rewinding.
regards,
Ton.

Just awesome. Gefeliciteerd Ton. I was in Holland last month...Had I known...
Next time I am across the pond (probably in May 2017) I want to see it in person! Congrats. Magnificent job!
I always wondered where it eventually went (via Willem)...He also obtained an NSU Kettenkrad which I found here in the States!
(btw this 1943 NSU251 OSL was found in Bulgaria by a guy from Germany).
Your NSU (glad it stayed in Holland) was the inspiration for me to start this thread! I also had a ZUndapp KS600 (1939) here in California, which I partially restored...just the easy stuff...cosmetics). That one found a home in Italy...and I had a Zundapp DB200
(1936) which went to somebody in Oregon if I remember correctly...So still Kradless! Need to find another (project) krad! Jealous!!! FABULOUS!Last edited by NickG; 10-16-2016, 12:15 AM.

Hi Nick,
Bedankt voor de complimenten.
You are welcome to view it whenever you come over. If I don't respond via WAF (I don't check all the time) just let Willem know. I see him regularly.
The rear:
You will notice a (temporary) hand-lever to change gears. I did that to be able to test drive while still working on gearbox, clutch, ignition. The foot-changer is a pain when in place... When everything works to satifaction the foot-changer will be put back.
As for the speedometer and fuse/key box on the tank: still looking for the correct ones. Difficult parts. The current ones do the job. Future.
The horn is a bulgarian production thing from the fifties/sixties. I left it as sort of history for this bike. As it rode in Bulgaria for a long time. A Bosch will come sometime.
Getting it running properly is priority nr 1 right now.
Ton.

251 OSL in service with the "Waffen SS Legion Norwegen".
Picture taken in Jelgava (in German: Mitau), Latvia 1943
Note metal lion Norwegian SS tab + Legion cuff title!

This NSU has a passenger saddle installed which (per the regulations) was uncommon for military contract bikes under 350cc.

I guess this thread needs to be updated
This NSU 251 OSL 1943 was abandoned by German troops during the retreat in northern Italy (Verona area).
Possibly LW motorcycle since big portion of LW troops surrendered in this area.
I have one original LW plate, but unfortunatley only one
Let's start from the very beginning:
