Hello guys,
I don't know if this is the thread for it but I would like to buy a NSU 251 OSL
and recently someone has offered me one for sale.
Only, this is not my field and I have no clue if it's a good wartime one or an
assembly of postwar parts pimped as WW2.
Please have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think, thank you
in advance!
Best regards,
Floris

The engine is a kriegsmetal (war time) "grauguss" (pot metal) block, so 1943 and later.
(as opposed to aluminum with the cooling ribs) So that's a good sign...
No data plates with WH info? (entstort nach Gruppe II)...
The waffenamt stamp on the frame is also a great indicator for it to be genuine Wehrmacht!
(unless its a post war bike with war time engine installed and fake waffenamt on the frame...hard to proof...
without a frame factory NSU data plate in place its impossible to tell if the engine always belonged on this bike...
but I have good feelings about it being war time (for the most part).Last edited by NickG; 01-07-2014, 02:41 PM.

Hello
This is a post war motorrad, or at least a mixed up.
You can see it from the oil pump carter.
Cheers

nSU 251 with wirbeluftfilter
to complete this great topic
I found a photo of an nsu 251 os with the specific military filter in Normandy, in the panzer lehr area during cobra operation, Saint Fromond around the 10th july, the motorbike was probably put on the sherman by the M31 ARV crew (3rd armored div, 32nd regiment, probably the ARV of the company C)
i found an other photo of a M31 ARV of the same regiment and company, one month late, with a german motorbike mounted on the M31 ARV; it's a yellow german motorcycle with glass paint, probably the same bike.
The last photo was found in the bundesarchiv site, it' seems to be an early type with aluminum engine, small headlamp bosch eas150 but with the late type tanker
