    Cheers, Ade.

Only 4 Panthers are in running condition, located at Kubinka Tank Museum (Russia), Saumur tank museum (France), WTS Koblenz and Panzermuseum Munster (Germany). The last one operates a post-WW2 engine.

There will be soon 2 more runners : Jacques Littlefield Panther, of which the engine was restored to running and was operated very recently (yes !! it runs !!) and Kevin Wheatcroft Panther.

But the panther of this movie is at the Sinsheim museum?
              Five runners at the moment?

Yeah this movie is from Sinsheim. But i dont think the maybach is driving the machine.

Can sombody tell me how they made this work ? Is there more info ? Is the real engine still inside ?
Are did they strip the inside to make this panther move for a few bucks ? Gues it is electric powered.
And a sound emulation of the real thing ?

That's the big question. I visited the museum last year and I was able to see the wheels and tracks moving, the turret turning right and left and the gun moving up and down. I hope that the museum team didn't do too much modifications and didn't break any part.. given the rarity of such a tank, it would be a shame and even worse to break or cut up parts to do a "funfair toy" with it..
So I confirm that this one at Sinsheim is NOT in running condition. The roads and tracks are not operated by the tank engine.

By the way, they also did modify a German "Dampflok" locomotive in the same way : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRKYAHN1E_0

But locomotives are not that rare, I know that on a former military base in germany where more than hundred's of them. I was there last year, but know there all gone. I've heared that Koblenz have about 6 or more in depot know.

It is actually very interesting now that I think about it that despite the large amount of Panthers left, and I would say they were the most numerous on par with the StuG 3 and Panzer 4, until the Bulgarian Panzer Pillboxes were excavated, that so few of them run.

Approximative numbers before the Bulgarian salvage:

StuG III approx. 70 (not counting variants)
Pz IV: approx. 34 (not counting variants)
Panthers, including Jagdpanther, Bergepanther and wrecks: approx. 43

The Bulgarian salvage has pushed up the figures for the StuG and Pz IV quite considerably, how much remains to get verified. A modest estimate would put the StuG in the 80 range and the Pz IV in the 55-60 range.

I would say that there are very few runners regardless of make, the Panther survivors rate high in runners, followed by the StuG and then the Pz IV third.
