Well the Knights Cross is a higher award than the DKiG

Basically his commanders felt that he doesn't deserve the DKiG, probably his actions were puntually brave due the fact of the type of unit so he received the RK with EL and S and no DKiG that was more an actitude award than a puntual bravery one.

According to Angolia's book For Fuhrer and Fatherland it was instituted by Hitler to recognize a degree of bravery or service above that of the Iron Cross 1st class but not sufficient to warrant the awarding the Knights Cross.

I just think its strange that he got the swords, and not the DK..
