It seems to me that this Pz.III was recovered in Ukraine several years ago.

Now it is standing as a monument in Kiev at the territory of military unit.

Same site as the buried footlocker so they must all be fake or staged..... No way that tank was underwater 60+ years. Heck, my feet wrinkle up after only 10 minutes in water.

                  Tank

They recovered a Russian T-34 in German marking from a bog several years back. It was in perfect shape with even the markings intact. I believe they got it running without much work.

I saw that one. It had a full load of ammo too.

                      Hi Don,

Actually it is quite possible. The cold anerobic environment will give amazing levels of preservation. Just think of OTSI (the Iceman) found in the glacier in Italy. No oxygen got to the body and the ice kept him in a deepfreeze and he is in a remarkeable state of preservation and he is organic and 5000 years old!

Gary I was joking because of the thread on the buried footlocker in the Living History Forum. I am continually amazed at the things that are found in the east.

                          T-34 recovery

Here is a link with photos of the T-34 recovery. It is amazing how some stuff survives so long under water.
