Interesting. Appears to be a sculpture by an artist David Cerny. It was made to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the departure of Soviet troops and installed in 2001. Maybe constructed of fiberglass? http://www.davidcerny.cz/start.html

Well , a metal detector might not be required to find it .
Look at it this way - would you like to meet the dog that burried it ?

The sad remains of the little known soviet air drop testing.

Proving beyond doubt the calculations of number of chutes required were incorrect. All furthur trails were discontinued.

On a more serious note i hope that it was a completely wrecked item and they just cut the arse end off. Other wise that is one massive hole they dug!!!

Freed - right out of the frying pan into the fire! That kind of liberation, I'm sure no one truly appreciates except for the guys who get named to be the local puppet commissar!

Freed, but some other time In a way, not different than the Nazis, the Red Army conquered the Baltic countries, half Poland, also attacked Finland... At a later stage, when fighting against Germany, the Red Army liberated only its own country. Its movement ahead of that proved to be a conquest, not liberation.

Especially for the Baltic countries that you mention - what do you expect, nice attitude towards their executioner?? I would say, for these countries the Wehrmacht was the liberating army, not the Red Army. The USSR had conquered the Baltic coutnries and was spreading death and terror. Then nazi occupation came and then again - bolshevik occupation. So, Nazi:Reds = 1:2. The Reds "scored" much more then the nazis. The reds plagued those lands twice in the WW2 years, then seed "bright future" for 50 more years... And while the nazis were racial and were killing the minorities, but were quite friendly to the local majorities, the reds were hostile exactly against the major populations of the countries. So, I see no reason for gratitude from these countries to the Red Army.

I don't think we can say that one murdering dictator is better or worse for his own or other countries. There was no true liberation for anyone under Stalin or Hitler. You may be lucky today, but tomorrow it could be your turn to be executed, sometimes for no reason but a whim.

These are actually quite common in CZ and SK.

There were many dozens of T34s all over the place in both countries many have long since ended up in the scrap heap but a few were made in art pieces this is one of them, others turned into playground slides there is even one standing on its barrel I think in Bruno??

Most towns with Soviet troops has one or two as gate guardians there were at least 10 on the highway from Kosice to Uzalrgrade (Soviet border)

There is also a Armored train in SK someplace just can't seem to remember where but I think it was Zvolen,.
