    Panzer picture inquirey

    Hi Guys.

I am very new to this and have just purchased my first picture of a German Panzer from ebay. A rather nice little 6 x 9 of early Pz III with turret number "711". My question is...can any info be gleaned from this picture and by that I mean would anyone be able to tell what Panzer Division this vehicle belonged to by the picture and turret number. I do believe its early in the war and probably France but this is a guess. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks

I guess its not much to go on and probably impossible to tell much from the picture alone. I feel it is a Pz III Ausf G with the short 5cm gun which would probably put this picture in Russia somewhere and not France as I first thought.
I have attached a scan of the reverse of the pic where something has been written but not much and of course my scanner is almost past its use by date. Maybe some one can decipher what is meant by the reverse on the pic. Thanks

Agreed, PZ IIIg version in Russia, summer '41 or early '42 is my "guess". Horizon, and setting look like the Steppes...this Pz is from second Bn in whatever Regt it is from...711 = 7th Co, 1st platoon, 1st tank. Also has transmitter antenna not just receiver antenna so this Pz is platoon leader...

France '40 there were very few if any PZ III with 5cm barrel, most (if not all)
      had 37mm still. Nice photo.
