I live in Moscow at the moment, not far from Snegiri ,been there a couple of times and sat on the hull and smoked a cigarette and wondered about the crew, battles they been in and the tank itself...
I will go there this weekend and make some fresh pics of the tank and its present commander,me of course in my black panzer sidecap !
The russians are very proud of their " victorious" past and that tiger tank is just another piece of german wrecked armor displayed for the people to see how the defetead germans ended their notorious adventure called " Barbarossa" !!!
It breaks my heart to see that beautiful tank in that kind of condition but then everytime when i go to Snegiri and sit on my tank (i do consider it mine in a way) it gives me a pleasure i cannot describe, after all,not many people can go and smoke a cigarette on top of a tiger tank

      obergruppen,

I am interested in obtaining some pictures of the Snegiri Tiger and of other vehicles like the T-26, the IS-3, the IS-2m and other Russian tanks. If you could take front-left or front-right pictures of the entire tank (only the tank, please !!) including the entire barrel, it would be absolutely nice. Here an example of what is a front-right picture :

I would use them because I will start to list surviving Russian WW2 tanks, self propelled artillery and tank destroyers on my website :

      http://the.shadock.free.fr/Surviving_Panzers.html

Here in France, like in Russia, we have 2 Tiger I tanks, one of them being at Vimoutiers in Normandy. As I'm not a smoker, I can only know what it is to observe the landscape on the turret of that tank, and it's every time an incredible moment..

      Best regards,

      Pierre-Olivier

I traveled 6,000 miles (from CA to Vimoutiers) just to stand on a Tiger. I would not have gone to Vimoutiers if they did not have one. No offense to the town, it is beautiful, especially the town center but the Tiger is a major tourist attraction. I do not think they will let it go for a replica, or for any other reason. If they let if go for 2 million Euro it would be a shortsighted decision. Plus it is VERY heavily damaged. A huge crack runs most of the way through it/

Anyway, if they put the tanks inside we cannot get on top of them, and as of now there are only two Tigers that we can actually stand on. Being able to stand on one of these beauties is amazing.

But Snegiri' Tiger will not be saled the next 10-20-50 years.

The Panther is not so rare tank as Tiger.
There are several Panthers standing as monuments and in such surprizing museums as Overloon, where the Panther' engine can be purchased.
Also, Sdkfz had two Jagdpanthers (in very bad condition, but two) for restoration.

Where can you buy 230P45 engine for Snegiri' Tiger?
Bovington' Tiger has 230P30 engine from King Tiger.
Where can you buy transmission for Tiger?
And do you have two Tigers to make one from them?
mike gibb restored a jadpanther with IS a rare tank/tank destroyer!! anyway its a shame to see a thing like that sitting there when there are people willing to sort it out!!

A sorry state of affairs regarding the Snegiri Tiger to be sure. Hopefully someone such as Jacques Littlefield or Kevin Wheatcroft will take a serious interest in buying the Tiger. The price would be mindboggling to be sure, not to mention the costs needed to transport it to the UK or California, and the fortune it would take to restore it, but if anyone has the bank account and motivation to make it happen, it would be them.

I can appreciate the Russan mentality when it is said that a hulk such as this is merely rusting scrap from a defeated enemy and not something worth spending precious money on for even basic preservation, but I also watched the museum clip on YouTube where a working Panther in Russia is seen moving slowly through an attentive crowd of several hundred civilians, maybe more. Perhaps not as many people share that sense of indifference these days? Times change, as do people's attitudes and state of mind, and c'mon, money talks. One tank (even a Tiger) does not make or break a museum, and that much cash could go a looong way towards improving their organization I am sure, assuming of course that the government would sanction the sale?

On another note, I made a post awhile ago on another Tiger-related thread, and I am wondering if anyone has any new information on the Tiger I? in question:

A TIGER in the mud !!!??? I surfed the net and found this excerpt under the feldgrau.com site:

Gadebusch, Germany - 0000-00-00 In the Neddern Lake near Gaddebusch in northern Germany (near Denmark), local officials report having found what is believed to be a german tank in the the mud. According to infrared pictures the object in question under the surface of the lake is a "very huge piece of metal". It is believed that it is a Tiger I of a training unit that would have been on its way from Denmark to the front. Eyewitnesses that live at the lake say that they saw that three young soldiers "sink" the tank as they saw the enemy closing in at the end of the war. As for now, the vehicle itself has not yet been seen but other eyewitness accounts exist accounting for people having stood on the tank while bathing in the lake shortly after the war. Extensive literature research also indicates that there is likely a tank lying on the bottom of the lake, pointing to the following: In the spring of 1945, the men of the unit in question received marching orders to the East Front which had to be made on road via the city of Flensburg due to the lack of transportation facilities. The Tiger thought to be at the bottom of this lake broke down with motor damage at L******252;beck and five other tanks with the unit continued on. After having repaired the engine, the three crew members continued their march via Sch******246;nburg in Mecklenburg. The lone tank bumped into an enemy armor column near the city of Rehna. Afraid of being caught by the enemy, the three young men sank their tank in lake Neddersee and dispersed. Further recovery of the vehicle is in process at this time.

The 21st story up from the bottom of the page at:
