May be you do not know, there are about ten tanks in this museum.
    Т-34, IS-2M, Sherman, SU-100 and others.
Also there is one T-18 - the first Soviet tank.
They are also needing to be restored.
It is impossible to built a roof only over the Tiger.

As about all the museum - it seems to me, the museum' chief has no such task to build a roof over it. This is an open exposition.

Maybe, some big boss do not understand the value of the Tiger and other tanks, and injury that they receive by weather.

the tank should be sand blasted and repainted
This is the main task of restoration?
Maybe you think that Tiger is suffering from wrong paint on it?

      Of course.
But Snegiri' Tiger will not be saled the next 10-20-50 years.

After seeing what Mike Gibb could do with a shot/blown up Jagdpanther I doubt close to nothing. The Bovington Tiger was funded and dependent on donations and a lottery, thus work progressed slowly.
The Panther is not so rare tank as Tiger.
There are several Panthers standing as monuments and in such surprizing museums as Overloon, where the Panther' engine can be purchased.
Also, Sdkfz had two Jagdpanthers (in very bad condition, but two) for restoration.

Where can you buy 230P45 engine for Snegiri' Tiger?
Bovington' Tiger has 230P30 engine from King Tiger.
Where can you buy transmission for Tiger?
And do you have two Tigers to make one from them?

I grew up with the Vimoutiers Tiger, as my greatfather lives in Vimoutiers.
I always knew him at this place and i believe it is IT place, nearly where he was saved, and not in 1983.
When you are around, when you jump on it, smelling the Normandy air it's something special (to me at least) and I already had that feeling when I was a kid. The valley is quiet now, listen to the sound of silence. There, only there.

The man who saved it, and the guys who are still working on it made something really great (the Tiger was laying in the mud, since end of war...) and it would be an offense, IMO, to change something.

The camo scheme have changed (if I can remember) but the Tiger is still there and should stay here, with nothing over it.

I never said it would or should be.

You are stating the obvious. Nevertheless, there are far more Tiger 1 parts out there than you'd think. Not enough to assemble a complete tank though but certainly enough to make one or maybe two restorations go a long way.

Come on, again you're stating the obvious. These are ALL major obstacles for a restoration but believe me, many of these parts or partial parts have already been sourced (or located) by the heavy players in preparation for the day a restorable Tiger would become available. Museums (unfortunately) don't hold a candle to the private collectors in terms of both funds and resources, they do assist though as Kevin Wheatcroft has done for the APG Tiger and Mike Gibb for the Bovington Tiger engine restoration/tuning.

            r_hufschmied, maybe you are truth.

But how all this words can be applied to Snegiri' Tiger?
Maybe you can offer some realistic plan of restoration.

Realistic plan for continued display at Snegiri? Well, I'd follow the Vimoutiers example. Stoping further decay would be a priority (cleaning and primer), a concrete pad to elevate it to the proper height to compensate for the collapsed suspension. Fixing the running gear and tracks with the parts available. Any remaining internal equipment and components should be salvaged and kept indoors. Sealing ALL hatches and fixing the worst structural damage where possible (cracked weld seams, cracks and holes). If funding would allow the hatch replacements could be made to look as much as the original as possible (I'm thinking of the front hull roof, commanders hatch and engine deck) and replica mud guards could be fitted. That's about it, any further restoration for continued outdoor display would (in my opinion) be a waste of resources.

r_hufschmied, the plan has no topic "Who will do all organization work".
Do you know such man in Russia, who wants to do it and have no his own restoration work?

                    tank restoration

there is another museum in Russia, Forgive me but its name has slipped my mind) that has restored several ww2 tanks a PzkeIV and V (the actually rent rides on them) They would have the expertise to at least stop any further decay. I believe they are ex Russian army armor mechanics

Sadly no, I don't know any such person in Russia. There are options though, saying this without knowing the internal politics.

                      - Kubinka has the facilities, personnel and the equipment to do the work I've suggested. Could they not be asked to assist? They could also store any salvaged internal components. I know they lack funding as well as personnel but this project wouldn't require much time.
                      - I know there are plenty armor enthusiasts in Russia and many do volunteer work. If asked many would surely be willing to help.
                      - Funding could be solved in a similar manor to Bovington, donations and maybe a lottery. The cost for the suggested basic restoration should be modest even in Russian terms.
                      - A restored (as suggested) Tiger would greatly enhance the appearance and become a crowd pleaser for the Museum. One should not underestimate the hands-on experience an outdoor display achives. It's one thing to see a vehicle, to be able to climb all over it is a BIG bonus.

But ... as long as no-one steps up to the plate and takes charge of a plan locally I fear that the Snegiri Tiger will continue to decay.

They have a lot of work in Kubinka and little time, because this group is working on holidays.
Maybe they will do this work, but several years later.
They are not ex-army mechanics (noone).

                          mistake on information

Sorry for my mistake on the mechanics, but for the sum of $1200. you can ride the tank as part of the crew. (at least according to the web site)

I forgot to mention that the replica gun barrel could also be improved upon, not that it is a bad job but it could be improved, especially the muzzle break. I've seen traces of Zimmerit on the Snegiri Tiger. A layer of putty applied as Zimmerit would go a long way in concealing damage and would also be period accurate. Though I suspect it would need repair fairly often. Missing external components (such as the missing armored exhaust pipe guard, pipes and mud guards) could be made out of fiberglass or sheet metal to good effect.
