German Panther.

Some years ago Wheels and Tracks had an article on a german based Panther rebuild...the PAnther came from a South of England scrapyard....the tank had been built post war for test purposes and had ended its life rusting slowly in a scrapyard in Southern England.
Does anyone know what became of the tank "Where is it now" ...the Wheels and Tracks photos showed a tank which was running and 99 % complete.

This was sold to a Herr Flick in Germany for £10000 and subsequently fully restored. The last I heard it was on sale for £100,000. Some profit ....

Panther.

For a second John I heard a voice in my head saying"Bring me my most powerful binoculars Helga"
100,000 is indeed quite a profit margin , even if you allow for say 40% of it going on restoration costs.
Wonder what the end sum was on the Bovington Tiger restoration project .....whatever it was I think it was worth doing.

Panzer Tank

This tank was built by the British Army (REME) from war time produced components, they built several of these probably eleven and some Jag Panthers. Quite a few of these vehicles still exsist in England, Panther and Jag Panther at Bovington Tank Museum and Panther in Germany. The Panther in question was indeed found in a scrap yard in the South of England and was sold to a German collector for £28,000, the tank was in poor condition and the collector must have spent thousands restoring it to its present mint running condition. There are at present two Jag Panthers being restored in England and one of them is another one of this bunch of British built vehicles although this Jag Panther was never fitted with a gun. I believe these were completed at the end of the war for Military evaluation although we had several captured examples the Military needed brand new vehicles.

I bought the back issue "No21" some years ago just read the article about the Panther and saw it updated everal years ago via "Wheels and Tracks".
Had often wondered if she was still in private hands , the additional information regarding the batch of test machines was very interesting.

John, do you have any more info on who has this for sale? To me 100,000 pounds seems cheap for a fully restored Panther. I may have to go get a quick loan!
