Wow, I saw some footage from earlier in the day and it was "all's quite on the eastern front". Must have turned into a bun fight later in the day.

        riots

        Hi Ken!

        "Some background info:
From the beginning of oct. on about 200 people demonstrated against the soc-lib administration on the square in front of the Parliament. They set up tents and stages, prepared for a long-term stay. On the 50th anniversary of the revolution of '56 56 kings, prime ministers etc. were invited to the official celebrations. Police officials made an agreement with the demonstrators, that they remove the tents (for security reasons) and let the EODs examine the "camp" and then they can stay. Sorry to say the demonstrators did not kept their promise, so the police "removed" them. So the riots begun..."

The social-liberal administration won its 2nd election in a row in 2006, so the ultra-right wing is "mad" about that Hungary still doesn't have a "national" administration (you know "just commies and jews"). They are not in the parliament, but they were free to demonstrate whereever they wished till they keep to the agreement with the police and stick to the democratic rules.

Sadly the populist right-wing Young Democrats (they were young in'90), the main opponents of the soc-libs in the Parliament are encouraging the rioters as it is a good opportunity to communicate that the "nation is sick of the liar prime minister and the administration that pushed the nation into a moral crisis blablabla" The prime minister has the majority in the parliament, he had a positive "confidental voting" (?), so that is it, no coups, juntas, civil war etc. Young Democrats calmed down and as usual they are signing a new petition on the strret (you know: 1. lower the taxes 2. free health care etc in a country where 1,5 million out of 10 m people pay taxes)

As I've already told before the riots were stopped by police in one day (pepper spray, water cannon, some rubber bullets), so everything is quiet now and Budapest is back to its normal life.

        Best regards
        Tam******225;s

          Hope everything is OK

          Hi Tamas
I visited your beautiful city this past summer and loved it. The people the scenery, food fantastic! I hope everthing is fine and the government straightens out. Over here in Canada our Government lies to us and we re-elect them I admire you people for having the balls to stand up to the lying Pr**k. I am planning on visiting again next year and wish you and the rest of the Hungarian people the best.
          Steve

            Wow! This is so cool!!

It's really great to see a WWII tank still working and running!
I think it's well maintained since it was able to go over a pavement and even smash some things. It ran like it was still new. I guess even if tanks are old, they're still a weapon to be reckoned with.

All this of course, putting aside the context of where and when this happened; riots and Political issues.

Also, whoever drove that T-34 was really lucky! He was able to drive and ride in a vintage tank! But then, at the expense of being caught by the Police.
