    Heereszeugamt Kassel

Does anybody know where i could get more information about the Heereszeugamt Kassel ?

I bought a 1944 Kübelwagen and i asked the Volkwagenmuseum at Wolfsburg to witch unit it was delivered.

I got an attest where was stated that my car went to the Heereszeugamt Kassel.

This is a large depot for military cars and from this depot the cars were dispatched to the units.

So i still don't know wat unit got my Kübelwagen .
The only thing i know that it left the factory 4 day's after the Von Stauffenberg attack on Hitler.

    Hi schrijnen,

Unfortunately it is 99.9% sure that you will probably never know, almost all of the VW Werke's production went to the HzA at Kassel, it is simply the nearest vehicle collection point to Wolfsburg that dealt with softskin vehicles.

Note that the VW factory is a civilian establishment, and HzA Kassel is a military establishment, so the vehicle has to pass from civilian ownership into military ownership and be properly accepted. Very often the HzA, and there were many of them, also equipped vehicles with additional military items, e.g. if the VW 82 was destined to be an Radio Carrier (Kfz 2/1) it is at the HzA that the radios would be added.

After the HzA there are Depots, these would be SS, WH, WL, WM etc., located in major towns and cities throughout the Third Reich, these Depots would request the different vehicles types from the HzA's, and it is these depots that allocated vehicles to specific units. Sometimes there were two of these depots in the supply chain before a vehicle was given to a specific unit.

The only real chance you have of finding your vehicles original unit is rubbing down the layers of paint to see if anything is there. Or in the case of an SS vehicles, knowing its original SS registration number.

      Thank you for the explanation.

So i 'll have to to find out what unit my Kübel was.

Are their records (SS, WH, KM, LW) who stated wat vehicle was in wich unit and where could i find something like that.

        HzA Kassel

        hi Schrijnen,

Maybe someone else has better information at this point,

However I am sure at some time in WW II there were records of which vehicles were in what units, some were listed by Fg.Nr, (which you have for your VW82) and some were listed by their WH, WL, SS registration numbers, ( which you probably will never know for your vehicle).

But of course so many German records were destroyed, it will be most likely a matter of great luck if something is found.

For an example you should look at www.sdkfz.com and read about this very problem when they were chaseing the history of their Jagdpanther and Kfz 21 Rommelcar recently.

        regards Lennard

          Hi!

Do you have the original WH/WL/WM or SS- Number of the vehicle?

If so, there may be a chance for help.

          Cheers

          Jürgen
