Identifying a Tank Unit

Guys I purchases a helmet that has a name and unit painted in the back of it.
It says

soldiers name then 1. Pz 49

I think it means 1 company 49th Regiment any experts out there know for sure and does any one have any history on this particular unit.

This is a tough one. I've gone through my sources and can't find any major panzer unit with a number 49. I hope someone else can find something.

Thanks for looking, my only source is the large Bender book. I do not know much about Panzer units
I did see a 49th Panzer Pioneer unit that saw action in Africa.

Can anyone else add anything. I would like to do some research on this guy but really do not have any experience with it.
