Yes I believe you had to destroy the tank with a hand weapon, be it a grenade or magnetic charge. You had to be a little closer than 1600m. I also believe anti tank crews were not able to recieve that award.

Anyone know who this guy was? I would think that there are some folks on this forum who could tell us who he is if they were to see the pic. I don't think there were many soldiers awarded this many tank destruction badges. It looks looks he also has the Honor Roll Clasp on his EK 2 ribbon and a numbered assault badge. This set of awards on a soldier in a grey stug type uniform should be traceable.
