Hi Gary, which "bit" of the vehicle is it exactly? I can't recognise it. Also is it still available?
      Cheers, Ade.

            Gary,
I agree with you that this piece is the armored cover of a smoke discharger unit but I think the type you point out is the earlier type and the relic shown up top is from the later variation. An example of this can be found in a vary clear pic of the rear plate of a Stug F on page 98 of Spielberger's book on the Pz III and its varients. This type of installation was used up to the time they began to place them underneath the over hanging rear plates of the later varients of Pz III. These also showed up on Pz II and Pz IV, also some Czech 38 vehicles (see the bottom pic of Panzerjager on page 46 of Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WW II).
            Regards, Mike C.

                mike,
Thanks for the info, I have limited books on the smaller panzer's , is it possible for you to scan a photo of these when you get time? Please! :-).

The guy who has this for sale said that the tank had a very short barrel, it had come from a blown up tank and the rest went to the scrap man :-(,
                cheers,
                Gary

                  Claus,
then it has come down in price $50.00 since it was offered to me at $500.00, maybe in time it will come down more and be worth buying, but I should imagine the item will also cost a lot in shipping,
                  cheers,
                  Gary

yes that is the other picture I have as well, and it does look like a thick and heavy piece of metal, but bloody nice :-),
