There is no doubt that Manstein's plan was the key of France: it permitted to make a war based on movement, during a short time, instead of attacking hard points during month (Maginot line), or fight against Allies best troups in Belgium, with unpredictable results.
Manstein was one of the best general of his time, he also prove it later in USSR.
