Does anyone "know" this Panther ??

Does anyone know anything about this panther ?
I found this photo on the net way back but don't know anything about her.
A rebuild or restoration project, any details or an update would be great.

Canadian Panther

I believe this picture was originally taken at CFB Bordon, a military base in southern Ontario (Canada). I believe it was recently leased from the base by the Canadian Government and is being restored to be included in the new Canadian War Museum at some point in the near future.

Borden Panther

Hello All,

As said above, this is the Panther at CFB Borden.

CFB Borden is a rather sad story. I am a serving member of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps and Borden is a big problem. Borden used to be the home of the RCAC and post ww2, all of the captured tanks etc were brought there and a park/museum was set up. Fast forward 30 years and the base was taken over and made primarily an airforce base. Here is where the problems started.

The Airforce didn't care about the tanks and left them there to rot. The RCAC finnally convinced the Airforce to do something about it and they were given a large sum of money to restore the vehicles. All the Airforce did was put them in a hanger and paint every square inch of most of the vehicles Olive Drab. All of the original markings were destroyed and the rust was not delt with so two months later they were rusting again.

Finnally alot of the rarer vehicles are being restored and taken to places like the museum in Ottowa. It is still a shame that this happended in the first place.

The Panther - can you tell us anyting about her whereabouts and her present state at the moment ?

Someone should be asked to acount for the decision to restore by paint alone , must have been the most expensive paint scheme ever.

I hope that the tanks have faired better away from the hands of the RCAF.

Hello,

Last I heard was that the Panther was either on its way to the Canadian War Museum or already there, under restoration.

It was not the RCAF who caused the problem, it was the CAF. When the Canadian forces unified, the Airforce dropped the Royal. I will refrain from giving anymore of my views about the Canadian Airforce because there is already to mush negativity across all of the boards.

The track / running gear must be stuck -the mud around the rear drive wheel has not moved at all.
