    Details of King tiger

I was just wondering whether anyone had any pictures or colour drawings/details they could copy from reference books or any other sources to show me the Ambush scheme on Pz abt 501 King tiger 008, its the stavelot Tiger disabled by its crew with the G on the front
It will only take a few minutes to find a pic in the book of it A colour plate of the camo would be most appreciated
    All the best
    Matt

Oh yes it looks as though Tiger is 008 not 003 (008 belonging to Eduard Kalinows and abandoned on 25.12.1944)

This drawing is pretty inaccurate for the actual state of the tiger after abandoning, and the drawer has used reflection to hide the camo detail although I now have a very good idea of what the glacis armour ambush pattern is like on this tank

              Hi Matt,

Here are some more photos, all courtesy of the December 1944 Museum in La Gleize. All these were taken at the location beside the N23 highway between Stavelot and Trois Ponts where 008 was abandoned. It reportedly broke down there, and the crew finally left it early on Christmas morning, 1944, as the remnants of the 1st SS armored reconaissance battalion in the area were withdrawing. It was beside one of the outbuildings of the Antoine farm. Actually, by the time these photos were taken it had been pushed off the road; there are two earlier photos were it's sitting on the edge of the road.

The colors of the turret numbers in the Osprey book print are conjecture. Tank 332 of the same battalion did arrive at APG in the summer of 1945 after being recovered by the US First Army with blue turret numbers outlined in yellow, but it's unknown whether or not the headquarters tanks or those of any of the other companies used these colors.

              Regards,
              Greg

Gerard Gregoire of the December 1944 Musuem in La Gleize drew this map of where 008 was (the other tank shown on the map was tank 105 after it had been removed from inside Stavelot).

The next two photos were originally published years ago in AFV-G2 magazine. They show 008 in the winter of 1944-45, sitting right on the side of the road.

                              hi all
for as long as i can remember i have had a thing about tanks
and german are the bee`s knees. so to my question
as far as i know no king tiger was ever killed in combat with another tank
                              is this right?

                              thanks for your time
                              dread
